Hi Christy -

Thanks for the kind words on the post. It was actually written by my late father, Walter. Please click the "About" button for a little backstory on his life and what he has written.
I'm always glad to get compliments, especially from someone so close to the subject matter. My father paid a lot of attention to details and it's great to hear how accurate he was.

A few corrections are needed.

“Pequot” means “tarred” in Algonquin. Although the Amistad Mutiny happened two centuries latter, the ship came to Mystic harbor. Similar Currents may have brought a ship from Africa to the Mystic River. Englishmen, who had a warfare culture and very little patience to learn language, tended to translate most things into a fighting context. Dark skinned men fighting to save their little bit of home land could be called “warriors “or “savages.” Both names are probably wrong. Englishmen who set fire to a compound of over 600 OLD men, women, and children (the Pequot non combatants) are called “exterminators.” Extermination is how the English “won” America.

The “Leni Lenape” are the “pure, abiding with the pure.” “Len” in Algonquin means “pure.” Today, in Norway “Ren” means “pure.” (Americans (Indians rarely say “R” sounds, Norwegians delight in rolling the “R” sounds. “L” or “R” they mean the same.
“Ape” derived from Old Norse, “as byy” meaning to “abide.” Yes, the Norse were in England for over two centuries.

The Leni Lenape were Christians when they left Greenland in 1346. They are Christians today. That is why there were known as warm and generally hospitable people.

More information can be found at http://www.frozentrail.org Check the download and the decipherment links. Refrain from using definitions created by the exterminators.
